George Lee “G.L.” Campbell
George Lee “G.L.” Campbell, age 90 of Henderson, passed away at his home surrounded by his family and wonderful caregivers on Saturday, December 20, 2014, under the care of St. Anthony’s Hospice.
G.L. was born November 8, 1924 to Omer and Lorene Campbell on the Campbell Farm. He graduated from Poole High School and went on to attend the University of Tennessee. There he played on the basketball team that won a championship while he was there.  He continued to be a Volunteer fan as long as he lived.  He played at Madison Square Garden twice. He also played on the Sebree Baseball team that won the Deer Creek League Championship the last year he played, as well as many other baseball leagues around the community.   He was actively involved for many years in Henderson Little League, up through the Babe Ruth Baseball leagues, where his grandsons, Josh and Jobe, played for years. He joined the Operating Engineers Union Local #181 where he worked for 50 years before retirement.  He was a Shriner and a Mason for the Poole Lodge. G.L. played the guitar and the banjo.  He loved his family and enjoyed being with friends.  He was a fun loving man who helped many people throughout his lifetime.  He was respected by all and loved everyone.  His last words to many were “I Love You” and “God Loves You”. 
Survivors include his  wife of 58 years, Henrietta Campbell; four daughters, Kim McGrew-Liggett and husband Kenny of Henderson, Jo Jo Cowling and husband Bruce of Henderson, Billie Sue Vogel and Bill Richmond of Alabama, Nonnie Hopper of Henderson; one sister, Bobbie Ann Buchanan and husband Bob of Henderson; five  grandchildren, Joshua Lee McGrew (deceased), Billy Jobe McGrew, Brad Thomason, Chris Thomason, Nathan Cowling; five great-grandchildren: Braxton, Ella and Ava McGrew, Graham and Grace Thomason; nieces and nephews, Beth and Belinda Buchanan. 
The funeral service was held on Tuesday December 23 at Tapp Funeral Home in Henderson with Father J. Edward Bradley and Reverend Ted Burke officiating.  Burial was at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Henderson.
Pallbearers were Keith Tapp, Jerry Brown, Keith Berry, Doris Edward Givens, Bobby Liles and Jonathan Allinder.
