Barry N. “Bear” Russell


Barry N. “Bear” Russell 86, of Providence, passed away peacefully at his residence July 1, 2016. 
He is the son of the late Claude & Ersie May (Pemberton) Russell. 
Bear is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marilyn (McGuyer) Russell; two sons, Steve (Leesa) Russell of Poole, KY, and David (Cheri) Russell of Providence, KY; one daughter, Barrie (Harold) Wilkerson, also of Providence, KY; and a brother Gary (Ann) Russell of Henderson, KY. 
He had eight grandchildren, eight great- grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. 
Bear Russell was best known as the owner and operator of Russell’s Service Station for 40+ years. A businessman to the core, he had a one of a kind ability to make a deal. Bear was a fixture in the Providence community and will be remembered by all for his benevolent spirit and contagious smile. By those closest to him, he will be remembered for his love for God and his family, as well as his sharp wit and ability to tell a good story. 
He was a member of Providence General Baptist Church for many years. 
Visitation will be Tuesday July 5, 2016 from 4PM to 8PM at Jones Kirby Funeral Home and 11AM to service time at 1PM on Wednesday July 6, 2016 with burial to follow in Lakeview Cemetery in Providence, KY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Anthony’s Hospice.

Anna V. Alsbrooks


Anna V. Alsbrooks, 90, of Providence, KY, passed away at Plamer Place in Providence on Saturday, June 25, 2016.
She is survived by her husband, James Alsbrooks and their two chrildren, Mke (Karen) Alsbrooks of Mountain Top, PA, and Rita (Butch) Hackney of Providence.
Also surviving her are three grandchildren and five great grandchildren, along with one sister, Marie Alsbrooks of Providence.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Melton Funeral Home in Providence, with Bro. Micah Kelley officiating.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 28th from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, and again at 9:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.
Interment will be in Corinth Church Cemetery in Providence.


Jerry Mac Taylor


Jerry Mac Taylor, 70, of Evansville, IN, formerly of Dixon, KY, passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2016. 
He was a member of the United General Baptist in Evansville IN, and he was a member of the Dixon Masonic Lodge #911. He also was a member of the Gideon’s International and a US Army National Guard Veteran. He loved riding his motorcycle. 
He was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Merle Benjamin, and three brothers, L. J., Wallace, and Larry Taylor. 
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Cindy Renae Taylor of Evansville, IN; three daughters, Christina Jones and Dawn Powell both of Dixon, KY, and Misty Weldon of Madisonville, KY; 10 grandchildren, J.T. and Clayton Jones, Taylor Main, Garrett, Reese and Ryleigh Powell, Meghan, Maggy, Canaan and Carly Weldon; and three nieces. 
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Townsend Funeral Home on Tuesday June 28, 2016. Bro. Rod Murray will officiate. Burial will be in Little Zion Cemetery in Dixon, KY. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, and from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday.

Marilyn R. “Sissie” Perkins


Marilyn R. “Sissie” Perkins, 84, of Providence, KY, passed away Friday June 17, 2016, in Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Evansville, IN.  
She is preceded in death by her parents, Dewey & Ida Sigler.  
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Eddie Jean Perkins; a son Eddie G. & Glenda Perkins of Madisonville; two daughters, Debbie K. & Donnie Throgmorton of Clay, and Kathy I. & Keith Frederick of Clay.  six grandchildren,  Kristie Frederick Daughtery of Evansville, Michael & Audrey Throgmorton of Clay, Karrie & Craig Utley of Clay, Jacob & Alison Throgmorton of Henderson, Jessica Perkins of Washington state, and Whitney Perkins of Clay.  She also had 13 Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  
She was a longtime member of Second Baptist Church of Providence, KY.  
Visitation will be at Jones Kirby Funeral Home Monday June 20, 2016 from 3PM to 8PM and Tuesday from 9AM until service time at 1PM in the Chapel at Jones Kirby Funeral Home and Burial following at White Oak Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Reba Dorris Pugh Slaton


Reba Dorris Pugh Slaton, 85 of Madisonville, KY, passed away June 9, 2016, at Baptist Health Hospital. 
She is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Verda Dorris; husbands Lacy Pugh and Joesph Slaton; son Roy Pugh; brother John Dorris; and sister Edith Kelley. 
She is survived by her daughter, Betty Crowley; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. 
Visitation will be at Jones and Kirby Funeral Home Friday, June 10, 2016, from 4 to 8 p.m., and Saturday, June 11, 2016, from 9 a.m. until service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Pleasant Valley Church Cemetery.

James “Fluky” Newcomb


James “Fluky” Newcomb, 87, of Providence, KY, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at his home.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran and served in the Korean War.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Providence, KY.
He was mine manager at Dotiki Mines for 26 years.
He was an avid CUBS fan.
He is preceded in death by his father Lawrence Newcomb, his mother Tina Brook Martin, his first wife Joyce Yates Newcomb, and a step-grandson Adam Pride.
Survivors include his wife of 12 years, June Perry Newcomb of Providence, KY; a son, James Lawrence Newcomb and his wife Christi of St. Petersburg, FL; a step-daughter Kathi Pride and her husband Ronnie of Clay, KY; two grandchildren, Matthew and Kaitlyn Newcomb; and two step-granddaughters, Bobbie Brown and her husband Jeremy, and Katie Berryman and her husband Steve.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay, KY. Pastor Jeff Mandrell and Bro. Paul Stone will be officiating. Entombment will be in Oddfellows Cemetery in Clay, KY with Military rites at the cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday, June 10, 2016 5:00-8:00 PM at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay, KY and from 10:00 AM til service time on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Jude’s Childrens Research Hospital, and St. Anthony’s Hospice, 2410 S. Green St. Henderson, KY 42420.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Betty Sue Hust

Betty Sue Melton Hust 90, of Henderson, KY formerly of Providence, KY passed away at the Lucy Smith King Care Center in Henderson, KY on Sunday May 29, 2016.

She was the former Co-owner of the Journal Enterprise from 1963-2014, and a member of the Providence First United Methodist Church in Providence, KY. She was the daughter of the late Roy and Lorene Dixon Melton. She was preceded in death by her husband William Edgar “Edd” Hust in 2005 and 1 son William Thomas “Bill” Hust in 1966.

Survivors include 2 daughters Barbara Begley and husband Bruce and Betsy Teer and husband Phillip both of Henderson, KY; 1 son Charlie Hust and wife Melissa of Providence, KY; 7 grandchildren and 3 step grandchildren; Leslie Duckworth(Josh), Emily Begley, Billy Begley(Lee), Laura Peck(Jimmy), Andrew May, Charlie Hust, Olivia Hust, Aaron Teer, Landon Teer and Natalie Teer; 6 great grand, and 1 niece and 1 nephew.

Funeral services will be held at 11am on Thursday June 2, 2016 at Townsend Funeral Home in Dixon, KY. Chaplain Mary Wrye will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Providence, KY.
