Dorothy Mae McDowell

Dorothy Mae McDowell, 86, of Providence died Friday, Aug. 29, 2014 at Hillside Center Nursing Home in Madisonville.

She was born January 10, 1928 in East St. Louis, IL, the daughter of Lawrence and Anna Makins Taylor. Dorothy was a keypunch operator for IBM in Los Angeles, CA, before she moved to Providence in 1969.

She was a member of the VFW Post #5484, Ladies Auxiliary and Providence General Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Frank McDowell, step-daughter, Mary Frank Alsbrooks and two brothers, George and Lawrence Taylor.

She is survived by one son, Rick Guizio of Providence; one sister, Betty Blankenship of Garden Gove, VA; three grandchildren, Kerry Alsbrooks, Shannon Alsbrooks and Mackenzie Guizio-Crockett; six great-grandchildren. 

Services were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday Sept. 6, 2014 at General Baptist Church in Providence.

Jones Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
