Betty Sue Jones
Betty Sue Jones, 83, died Wednesday, August 27, 2014 in Lexington. She was born on December 3, 1930 in Slaughters to the late James F. and Vessie Tompkins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Henry Jones, Jr.; her former husband, Hayden Lee Townsend; and her sister, Mary Frank Rakestraw.
She is survived by her daughters, Pamma Townsend and Sharron Townsend (Larry Bender), both of Lexington; her stepdaughter, Connie Jones Townsend of Dixon and her stepson, Steven Jones of Slaughters; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Edwin and Mildred Jones of Slaughters; nine step grandchildren; 12 step great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty Sue was a homemaker and farmer. Known for her delicious cooking, she enjoyed sharing her many recipes and dishes with family and friends. She and Henry always had a sense of pride for their vegetable garden as they shared the plentiful harvests with all. She loved laughter, playing Rook and the comfort of evenings on the porch.
She was a lifelong member of Harmony Baptist Church. Her greatest joys were her love of God and love of her family.
Friends may call at Townsend Funeral Home on Friday, August 29 from 5-8 p.m. with the funeral service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at the funeral home. The Rev. Fred Harrison will conduct the service. Burial will be in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery Fund, c/o Linda Vincent P.O. Box 378 Robards, KY 42452.
