Hugh Thomas “Tom” Grigg


Hugh Thomas “Tom” Grigg, 84, of Wheatcroft, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2015 at Methodist Hospital Union County in Morganfield.
Mr. Grigg was in the U.S. Army where he served in the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and served in the Korean War. He worked for 36 years as a coal miner for Badgett, Island Creek and Peabody Coal Companies. He was a member of United Mine Workers of America. Mr. Grigg was also a lifetime member of the VFW in Sullivan. He was a member of the United States Trotting Association for many years and he was lifelong lover of Harness Racing.  He was of the Methodist faith.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Jackie Grigg of Wheatcroft;  three daughters, Kathy Martin and her husband Larry of Smith Mills, Lisa Attebery and her husband Gary of Henderson, and Kristi Melton and her husband Alan of Niagara; six grandchildren, Eric Martin and his wife Dawn, Leigh Ann Loney and her husband Mark, Tom Fears and his wife Jessie, Sara Riggins, Taylor Young and Caleb Melton;  three step-grandchildren, Julie Lawrence and her husband Josh, Lori Reed, Kensi Belt and her husband Derek;  five great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren and one nephew, Mike Grigg and his wife Rhonda.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay  with Bro. Steve Hale officiating. 
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Clay with Military Rites conducted at the gravesite. 
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 2, 2015 from 4-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. until service time.
Pallbearers will be Eric Martin, Tom Fears, Taylor Young, Caleb Melton, Dillon Martin and Bryan Vice.  Honorary Pallbearers are Mike Grigg and Sara Riggins.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Union County Methodist Hospital Foundation, 4604 U.S. Hwy 60 West, Morganfield, KY 42437.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
