George W. Boyd


George W. Boyd
George W. Boyd, Age 92, of Madisonville, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014 at West Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson.  He was born July 21, 1921 in Rockport, KY to Homer and Gladys Boyd.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Madisonville and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5480.
He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corp. and was a member of the 559th Bomber Squadron.
Mr. Boyd was a retired Safety Director for several transportation companies.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Juanita Stewart Boyd.
He is survived by one daughter, Jan (Richard) Melton of Providence and one son, William (Becky) Boyd, of Bradenton, FL; two grandchildren, Georgianna Melton Haas of Evansville, IN and Stanton Allen Melton of Providence; two great-grandchildren Savannah Haas and Megan Jackson of Evansville, IN.
Service were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Melton Funeral Home in Providence with Dr. Joe Leonard officiating. 
Burial was in Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam.
Military honors were presented by Hopkins County Honor Guard.               paid

Sidney Marshall Heady, 76, of Blackford,  passed away Monday, June 23, 2014 at Baptist Health Hospital in Madisonville. 
He attended Oak Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church located near Blackford.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Katie Catherine Heady.  
He is survived by two daughters, Tammy Rich of Uniontown and Vickie Pritchett of Clay; two sons, Mark Heady of Blackford and Richard Heady of Clay; one sister, Nancy Heady Lacy of Marion; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.   
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay with the Rev. James V. Fulton and Bro. Bob Jernigan officiating.   
Burial will be in Blackford Cemetery in Blackford. 
Visitation will be Friday, June 27, 2014 from 5-8 p.m. at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay 8 a.m. until service time.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Blackford Cemetery Memorial Fund, 219 Cemetery Road, Clay, Kentucky  42404.

Carolyn Jane Whitledge Helton, 84, of Providence, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at her home.
He is survived by one daughter, Cindy Whitledge Williams of Providence; one son, Rodger Williams of Providence; four grandchildren.
Graveside services were conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Oddfellows Cemetery in Clay. 
There was no visitation.
Vanover Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Theodore Garrett “Butch” Bea, 65, of Providence, died Monday, June 16, 2014 at Baptist Health in Madisonville.
He is survived by three daughters Sonya L. Broady, Valerie Lynn Harris and Tara Bea; two brothers Darrell and Kris Rollins; three sisters Deborah Carter, Evelyn Maxie and Tracey Floyd; six grandchildren and seven great -grandchildren.
Services were conducted at 12 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Simpson Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Providence with James Brasher officiating. 
Burial was in Williams Lawn Cemetery in Providence.

Charles Michael "Mike" Taylor, 46, of Sebree, died Saturday, June 14, 2014 at his home.
He is survived by his wife Cassie Lynn (Durbin) Taylor of Sebree; his mother, Diana Taylor Wheatley and stepfather, Bill Wheatley of Sebree; one step-daughter, Carrie O'Nan of Providence; aunts and uncles and many friends.
A memorial Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2014 at Tomblinson Funeral Home Sebree Chapel with Bro. Gary Ashby officiating. 
Visitation will be Friday from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home.

He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Jennifer Price; his mother, Joyce Price of Clay; two sons, Caleb Dehaven of Clay and Robert Dehaven of Providence; one sister, Mary Beth Rheingruber of Chicago, IL; four grandchildren.
Services were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay with Dr. James Taylor officiating. 
Burial was in Rocksprings Cemetery in Wheatcroft.

Cleda Ruth Stone, 74, of Providence, died Friday, June 13, 2014 at Methodist Hospital in Henderson.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Herman Stone; one daughter, Brenda McMican of Providence; two sons, Allen Stone and Herman Dale Stone both of Providence; one sister, Donna Engler of Providence; one brother, James McVay of Lisman; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2014 at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay with Dr. Darrell Gates officiating. 
Burial was in Green Grove Cemetery near Providence.

William “Sonny” Travis, 70, of Providence, died Sunday, June 15, 2014 at his home.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Travis; two sons, Jeff Travis of Marion and Ray Derrington of Sturgis; three daughters, Sue Clevenger and Donna Hanor both of Providence and Cheryl William of Florida; two step-sons, Ricky Sisco of Providence and John Sisco of Draffenville; two step-daughters, Martha Emery of Cabool, MO and Jeannie Thomason of Providence; one brother, James Travis of Providence; three  sisters, Mary Wyatt of Madisonville and Martha Jameson and Betty Atkins both of Providence; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Myers Funeral Home in Marion. 
Burial will be in Green Grove Cemetery near Providence.

Nelda Lambert Barton-Collings


Nelda Lambert Barton-Collings
Nelda Lambert Barton-Collings was born May 12, 1929 in Providence, KY.  She graduated Valedictorian from Providence High School, attended Western Kentucky University, and was a graduate of Norton Memorial Infirmary School of Medical Technology.  She married Harold Bryan Barton, MD (deceased) in May 1951 and had 5 children (1 deceased).  Most of her adult life was spent in Corbin, KY.  She later married Jack Clayton Collings, MD (deceased) of Owensboro, KY.
Barton-Collings has been a successful businesswoman in banking, nursing homes, newspapers and other small business ventures in partnership with Terry Forcht.  Civicly, she was the first woman to serve as Chair person of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, past Vice President of SEKY Rehabilitation Industries, served on KY Council on Economic Education, KY Commission of Women, Partnership for KY School Reform, Charter Board Director for Leadership Kentucky, National Advisory Council for SBA, President Reagan’s Federal Council on Aging and Council for International Affairs, President Bush’s Council on Rural America, among many other activities.  
Politically, Nelda retired after 28 years as Republican National Committeewoman for Kentucky, and held offices as RNC Secretary and Vice Chairman.  She was a delegate to the Republican National Convention multiple times, a presidential elector and called to order the RNConvention in ‘96.  Barton-Collings was the first woman to give a major address at the Republican National Convention in 1980.  She has worked through the ranks from precinct chairman to national and international offices.  
Nelda Barton-Collings has received many honors over the years, too numerous to list.  These are several that she cherished most:
Kentucky Women Remembered Award by KY Commission on Women (portrait in Capitol) Moral Leadership Award, University of the Cumberlands; Honorary Co-Chair Kids Voting Kentucky; Kentucky Association of Health Care Facilities Ira O. Wallace Award; Nelda Barton-Collings Community Service Award by KAHCF; Outstanding Layperson by the KY Medical Association; KY Mansion Preservation Foundation Lifetime Member; UK Medical School Honoree of the Year; Jefferson County Kentucky Office Women Hall of Fame; Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree University of Cumberlands; KY Woman Achievement Award KY Business and Professional Women; Honorary Mother of KY Award by KY Mothers Association; Nelda Barton Day proclaimed by the Mayor of Corbin; The Dwight D Eisenhower Award; KY State Senate Certificate for Outstanding Women in Business and Leadership; KY State Senate Distinguished Recognition Award; Tribute to Nelda Barton-Collings Republican Party of KY and 5th District Lincoln Club.
Mrs. Barton-Collings is survived by her four children, Barbara Barton of Denver, CO, H. Bryan Barton, Jr. and wife, Amanda, Steve Barton, Suzie and Greg Razmus all of Corbin, eleven grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.  Also, she is survived by her sisters, Nadine Bacon of Clarksville, IN, and Norma Gibbs of Henderson, KY, brother and sister-in-laws, Dr. Don and Joan Barton, Dr. Bruce and Arlene Barton of Corbin, Jennie Barton Wesche of Williamsburg, and 18 nieces and nephews mourn her passing.
Visitation is from 5-8 pm, Tuesday, June 17th at the O’Neil - Lawson Funeral Home.  Services are at Grace on the Hill United Methodist Church at 11 am, Wednesday, June 18th.  In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of the Bluegrass would be appreciated.

She is survived by one sister, Lillie Greer of St. Claire Shores, MI; her caregiver, William “Bill” Beach of Blackford; several nieces and nephews.
Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 5, 2014 at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay with Bro Mack Gibson officiating. 
Burial was in New Clay Cemetery in Clay.

Joseph Goldman, 64, of Madisonville, died Sunday, June 1, 2014 at his residence.
He is survived by his wife, Liz Swick; two sisters, Linda McMelan of Texas and Tina Goldman of Florida; one brother, Dave Goldman of Louisville.
There was no visitation or service.

She is survived by her parents, the Rev. John ans Suzie Shirey of Sturgis; three sons, John Sheridan of Dixon, Ben Harnes of Henderson and Jodie Harnes of Evansville, IN; one daughter, Michaela Boaz of Hampton, VA; caregiver, Micheal Sheridan; two brothers, Phil Shirey of Dripping Spring, TX, and Lt. Col. Joey Shirey of Rapid City, SD; six grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Sturgis with the Rev. Victor Hassel officiating. 
Burial will be in Pythian Ridge Cemetery. 
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. on Wednesday until service time at the church.

He is survived by his wife, Marcella Pool Wells; two sons, Kenneth Wells, Lyndall Wells both of Slaughters; two sons, Kenneth Wells and Lyndall Wells both of Slaughters; two sisters, Ann Clark and Glenda Sullivan both of Madisonville; four brothers, Billy Wells of Hanson, Ray Wells and Jerry Wells both of Nortonville and Charles Wells of Slaughters; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Tomblinson Funeral Home Slaughters-Hanson Chapel with Bro Harry Baldwin officiating. 
Burial will be private. 
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday and from 8 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.

Mary Agnes Powell Wilson 89 of Morganfield, died on Tuesday May 27, 2014 at Morganfield Nursing and Rehab in Morganfield. 
She was a housewife. She was preceded in death by her husband Odis Wilson, a son Anthony Don Wilson, two brother’s Douglas and J.L. Powell, one granddaughter and one great-great granddaughter. 
She is survived by two daughters Lois Page and her husband Eddie of Corydon, and Faye Gentry and her husband Curtis of Dixon; six sons Darrell Wilson and his wife Cheryl of Morganfield, Randy Wilson and his wife Doris of Dixon, Denny Wilson and his wife Elaine of Morganfield, Terry Wilson of Morganfield, Troy Wilson of Morganfield, and Kimmie Wilson and his wife Andrea of Morganfield; two brothers Jerry Powell of Florida and Marion Powell of Morganfield; 20 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. 
Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2014 at Townsend Funeral Home in Dixon with the Rev. Dwayne Wilson officiating. 
Burial was in Old Cedar Grove Cemetery in Tilden. 
Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday and from 8 a.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home.
